With "Smart TV" now the norm, it can be tempting to give into the implicit suggestion that any older television (even an impressive high-end model from 1-2 years ago) is "dumb" by comparison for lacking these additional online media features.

The LG Smart TV Upgrader (ST600) is a useful way to enjoy these new features -including web browsing, streaming media, video on demand, apps and other niceties - without needing to buy an entire new TV.

The upgrader is reasonably affordable and connectable to the TV via a simple HDMI cable. It can connect to your network (allowing access to the internet and other devices on the same network) through ethernet or wi-fi.

While the web browser is an interesting (and arguably necessary) feature, your mileage may vary on practical use. The on-screen keyboard can be a hassle to use, so if you plan on doing any typing, searching or logging in, expect some wasted minutes spent slowly inputting text.

All in all, however, the LG Smart TV upgrader is a very useful device that lives up to the name. It's an ideal way to experience the newer bells and whistles without needing to purchase a new television. The features are impressive, compabibility with file formats is great, and it will only make the tiniest dint in your bank account.
